Kickstarter Update #38 "Slate Zim Sneak Peek"

Hi Zeeproers,

FRAME:

As we told you in update #37 dated March 19th (19 days ago), it takes about 60 days to manufacture the tooling. Work is in process… so in the meantime, let’s talk a bit about Technic…

We wanted to share with you today some more information on the frame creation process with our new supplier which is progressing as expected. There are actually several stages to the work which gets to a completed extruded frame such as ours. The first step is a review of the dimension and tolerances which have been requested.

The second step is the drawing of the plans of the toolings then comes the creation of the toolings themselves. Finally comes the testing of the toolings. At this stage, aluminum temperature and extrusion pressure are adjusted to get the best possible extrusion from the stock material. In parallel, the supplier works on the CNC programming to go from the extrusion to the final part. There are numerous issues to be discussed and solved which may seem as details but are actually very important to the final result such as how to suspend the frame during the anodization process without risking leaving marks on the finished part or how to hold the frame perfectly static during the various machining operations.

Currently, the toolings are being created and the CNC engineers are working on the programming of their machines to get our frame done as soon as possible.

Our new supplier is highly professional (they extrude the Bose SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker aluminum frame) and we are fairly confident to ship during the first part of June as announced.

COMMUNITY FORUM:

Another subject we wanted to touch base on is the Community forum. Technobly has done a great work creating and preparing a forum for the community. THANK YOU VERY MUCH to him! We have decided to follow his recommendation on Discourse and work with him to launch our backers forum. The forum will be online before the end of next week, April 18th.
