Getting Started tips

Hi all, Having just started using my Zim and fumbling through the first few print attempts I’m going to post some things I learned in the hope that it will help others. Anyone else with tips is also encouraged to post.

  1. I recommend the first step after getting your Zim is to check if the bed is leveled. I know it says they are factory calibrated and mine was close but re calibrating it helped get prints to work on mine. Here is a link to instructions on calibrating the bed. http://zimsupport.zeepro.com/support/solutions/articles/5000050247-how-to-level-the-printing-plate
  2. a. Use blue painters tape to cover the bed this will improve how well the prints stick. I have had excellent success with the tape.
    b. Alternate to tape. Use Elmers Disappearing Purple glue sticks instead of the one sent with the zim.
  3. Once you are done with a print just use warm water to clean the print bed works quite well if you used the glue.
  4. I have been running my printer at 185 deg C and that has helped with prints.

One useful place for basic information is the Zim support page.

Hope these help. I will update this with more tips as I use my Zim more.

Update 1. I would recommend starting with smaller prints especially if you are new to 3D printing. I have yet to get a good print when printing larger objects because the plastic cools and warps as you print often causing the head to rip the object off the bed. (Fixed this issue using blue painters tape.)
